Vembadi old Girls’ Association NSW, Sydney is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs Parasakthy Sundaralingam. Members of VOGA NSW is expressing our heartfelt condolences to her family. Mrs Sundaralingam was a student and a teacher at Vembadi Girls’ High School (VGHS), Jaffna and was involved with our association VOGA NSW for many years. She was the second student from Jaffna to enter the University of Peradeniya and was recruited by the Principal Miss Mabel Thambiah to teach Tamil and Hinduism when she graduated. She was a very popular and well respected teacher and was a mentor to many students at the school. Mrs Sundaralingam was a well known Tamil Scholar in Sydney and wrote books and many articles in Tamil, about Hinduism and Tamil ancient culture. . She was one of the three experts engaged by The Dept of Education to write the school curriculum for Hinduism in Srilanka. Her highly valued opinions, analysis and feedback were sought by many within our community and by our Sydney radio programs. She helped in writing scripts for Tamil dramas and other stage performances, especially for the Abeyakaram charity programs in Sydney. She was a devotee of Jaffna Siva Yogaswamy and attended the monthly poojas conducted by the Sydney branch and delivered many speeches at the poojas. Her speeches were well received and an inspiration to many. Though in the recent past she had suffered poor health, she kept active with her emails connecting with her peers and friends. Sydney Tamil community and VOGA NSW has lost a valuable member and she will be sadly missed. We pray that her beautiful soul rest in peace at the feet of almighty Anpudan VOGA NSW, Sydney, Australia

Vembadi was part of her history. She studied at Vembadi and after graduation came back to Vembadi as a teacher. She was a tall, smart lady who dressed very gracefully & modestly with grace. When we students gave her Roses she will proudly tuck it on her Konde. She always had a permanent smile, but behind that smile was her firmness in a kind way. She was a disciplined person. Mrs Sundharalingam was more than just a teacher to us. She was a mentor, a guide, and a source of inspiration. She taught Tamil & Religion at Vembadi Girls High School Jaffna. And later at St Clare’s Colombo. Mrs Sundharalingam had an exceptional gift for education. Great Passion for her Hindu faith & Tamil Culture and contributed towards it immensely. Her passion for teaching was evident in every lesson she taught us, every word of encouragement when students struggled, and every challenge that was before us before exams. Even just before our University entrance exam(HSC) she had time to encourage us individually and we did exceptionally well. She had a way of making even the most complex subjects feel accessible and engaging, igniting a curiosity in us that went beyond the classroom. It was not just about imparting knowledge, but about instilling a love for learning that we carry with us to this day. What set Mrs Sundharalingam apart was not only her expertise but also her profound compassion. She had an uncanny ability to see potential in each student where others might not, to recognize the struggles of each student, and to offer support that was both firm and nurturing. It was her belief that in us that often propelled us to believe in ourselves. She understood that education was not merely about grades and tests but about shaping character and inspiring dreams. Outside the classroom, she was a beacon of kindness and wisdom. She listened with patience, offered guidance with sincerity, and always had time for those who sought their counsel. Her influence extended beyond academic achievement; She taught us, the value of integrity, perseverance, and empathy. Mrs Sundharalingam led by example, showing us that true success is measured not just by personal accomplishments but by the positive impact we have on others. As we remember her today, let us celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Her lessons continue to resonate with us, her words will echo in our hearts. Her example of Humility, Simplicity, Sincerity, great Passion & dedication to Tamil Language and great Commitment to her Hindu faith but with respect for other religions are some qualities, we as her Students of Vembadi Girls’ High School will always carry it with our motto “Dare to do right”. செய்தி கேட்டு மிகவும் துக்கம் அடைந்தேன். 1980 இல் இருந்து பராசக்தி ஆண்டியுடன் எனக்கு நெருக்கமான பழக்கம் உள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் நான் கல்வி கற்கும் பொழுது என்னுடைய Guardian அவர்கள் தான். எப்பொழுதும் இன்முகத்துடன் வரவேற்று ஏதாவது உணவு அருந்த தந்து தான் அனுப்புவார்கள். நான் Delhi இல் இருந்த போது கூட அங்கிளுடன் வந்திருந்தார்கள். அந்த நினைவுகள் எல்லாம் நினைத்து பார்க்கும் போது மனம் மிகவும் வேதனை அடைகின்றது. தமிழ்முரசு ஆஸ்திரேலியா என்னும் online வார பத்திரிகை ஆரம்பித்த போது எமக்கு மிகவும் ஊக்கம் கொடுத்து ஆக்கங்கள் பல தந்து உதவினார். Aunty இன் வாசிப்பு திறமை மற்றும் எழுத்தாற்றலை பார்த்து மிகவும் வியந்து இருக்கின்றேன். என்றும் உங்கள் அன்பை எங்களால் மறக்க முடியாது. சென்று வாருங்கள் Aunty.
